Eye Appeal Ratings
CoinBidders.Com -- Eye Appeal ("EA") Ratings
We didn't invent the concept of Eye Appeal ("EA") Ratings, but we think they're a great idea so we've added them to our coin descriptions. EA Ratings are not designated by the certification companies, and are nothing more than the dealer's opinion of how a coin compares to the average coin of the same type, date and mint mark. In other words, not all 1925 Saint Gaudens $20 gold pieces graded MS64 are created equal - some are "prettier" than others, even though they all might technically make the MS64 grade. EA Ratings allow the coin buyer to do one of two things: |
* Seek out premium quality ("PQ") coins that have better than average Eye Appeal for the grade
* Increase the chances of buying a coin below market value by accepting coins with below average Eye Appeal for the grade. |
Again, all EA Ratings are strictly the opinion of the selling dealer, so you may or may not agree with their EA Rating designations when you receive your coins. Unfortunately, since EA Ratings are just an opinion, any coins returned because of disagreements over EA Ratings will be subject to the normal restocking fee. However, our dealers are aware that if they're too liberal in designating EA Ratings, our customers will likely exclude them from their future coin searches / purchases. |
EA Rating "10" ===> Best possible Eye Appeal for the grade -- an outstanding specimen for the grade. EA Rating "01" ===> Worst possible Eye Appeal for the grade -- not pretty at all, but still technically "makes the grade" according to the certification company, and is most likely available at less than market price for the grade. |
